ST NICHOLAS

St Nicholas was born during the third century in Patara in Asia Minor ,which now forms the southern coast of Turkey. He became a Bishop during his early adulthood and was known for his genorosity to those in need, and for his love of children.

Many stories were told about how St Nicholas loved and protected children both during his lifetime and after his death. He was persecuted and exiled under the Roman Empire for his faith but he was released and lived to continue his mission for a further 18 years. He died on December 6th, and this date has become known as St Nicholas Day. He has latterly has become the forerunner of the well known figure of Santa Claus or Father Christmas, keeping the spirit of love and genorosity for those in need alive, during the festive season.
